Paris Community Hospital joins Rural Alliance for Exceptional Care

Paris Community Hospital (PCH) has joined the Rural Alliance for Exceptional Care with Carle. The Rural Alliance is designed to help better coordinate care in the region and ensure that resources are available for patients closer to where they live.

“Our patients have benefitted from seeing Carle physicians both here in Paris and in Urbana. Joining Carle’s Rural Alliance will help us streamline care, whether it’s by having more specialty care available locally, ordering the appropriate diagnostic exams or communicating between providers and facilities,” said Oliver Smith, Chief Executive Officer for Paris Community Hospital.

The 25-bed Paris hospital will remain independent and will continue to be operated by its local board. For PCH, joining the Rural Alliance provides a framework to develop future services when patients need an additional level of care not available locally. The partnership will allow Carle to continue serving patients who would travel for care, with the intent of providing more care closer to home for those in Edgar County and the surrounding area.

“We’re thrilled to have Paris Community Hospital join the Rural Alliance for Exceptional Care because they share Carle’s commitment to remaining locally owned and operated to provide the best possible care for patients,” said James C. Leonard, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Carle Foundation.

Paris Community Hospital and Carle have collaborated for more than 20 years with Carle specialists in cardiology, gynecology, oncology, adult and pediatric pulmonology, general surgery, gastroenterology, and urology providing care in Paris. When a patient needs another level of care, he or she may be transferred to Carle and physicians from both facilities collaborate to provide the most appropriate treatment.

“Adding PCH to the Rural Alliance will allow us to consider together how to best provide specialty care offerings, hospital-based physicians or shared clinical care protocols all so we can care for patients who need the support,” said Stephanie Beever, RN, MS, senior vice president for system strategic development, The Carle Foundation.

Paris Community Hospital joined the Rural Alliance for Exceptional care effective June 23, 2015.
