New event uses humor and heart to attract more nursing rock stars
Those who attend will earn 1.5 contact hours of continuing education, meet nurse managers and laugh while they learn. Plus, The Caring Place, Carle’s daycare facility, will provide free childcare during the event.
Well-known author Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP, will present “Shampoos, Tattoos and Barbecues – Infectious Disease Update.” The author of “Kiss My Asparagus!” strives to make complex health topics informative and entertaining.
“Nurses can’t help but listen, learn and laugh as Barb injects her Southern charm into discussions about some of the realities nurses and other healthcare providers face every day,” said Pam Bigler, RN, MS, NEA-BC, Carle’s chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services.
“Everyone will leave her presentation fortified by the knowledge that real rock stars really do wear scrubs.”
Bancroft’s presentation begins at 4:20, capping off a full afternoon.
- 1:30 to 3 p.m., event registration
- 2 to 4:20 p.m., Carle career booths open
- 2:30 to 3:45 p.m., tours of the hospital and clinic
- 3 to 4 p.m., get to know nurse managers
“We understand how valuable nurses are. We created this event to show nurses who don’t know Carle why this is such a great place to work,” said Jackie Ohl, Carle Human Resources talent acquisition manager. “Patient-first care, flexible schedules and a variety of opportunities are part of the draw. Teamwork and innovation attract top nurses, as well.”
Carle has added about 475 registered nurse positions in the last two and a half years.

Current Carle and Health Alliance Medical Plans nurses and other healthcare providers and students will also earn nursing education contact hours and spend time with Bancroft during professional practice events that will focus on interpreting lab tests and pharmacology.
