Athletic trainers cover tons of teams, offer free walk-in clinic

Athletic trainers help prevent injuries, provide emergency care for athletes injured during an event and assist with rehabilitation. 
Carle Sports Medicine has 29 athletic trainers. They cover 21 high schools, two colleges, one university club team, one professional basketball team, three youth football organizations and one soccer organization that hosts two multi-state tournaments. 
Outside of events, Carle Sports Medicine athletic trainers provide therapy at the Carle North Annex for individuals hurt in sports or injured while exercising.

Carle Sports Medicine also offers a free walk-in clinic. Any individuals with a sports- or activity -related injury may walk in and be assessed by an athletic trainer at the North Annex, 810 W. Anthony Drive, Urbana. Hours for this clinic are:
  • Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. To 8:30 a.m.
  • Monday – Thursday 4 p.m. To 6 p.m.

Once an athletic trainer completes his or her bachelor’s degree, passes the National Athletic Trainers examination and receives Illinois Licensure Certification, he or she can work as an athletic trainer in Illinois.
