Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Ambulatory Nurse Residency Program is designed to support nurses moving into the specialty of ambulatory care nursing.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This innovative program is designed to increase confidence, competence, critical thinking, and effectively and efficiently prepare nurses for the ambulatory care setting at Carle Foundation Hospital. This program will provide nurse residents weekly classes to help acclimate them to Carle and nursing, a year of clinical coaching and feedback to develop nursing skills, and allow for the nurse to rotate between Primary Care areas in order to find the best fit in the ambulatory setting.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

-          Nursing students in their final year of nursing school

-          Newly graduated nurses

-          Nurses with less than one year of experience



EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Basic Life Support (BLS) and the ability to obtain Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) licensure within 6 months of hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists with the maintenance of department supplies to ensure the smooth function of the department, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies.
  • Collects data on assigned patients as directed by Registered Nurse (RN) and ensures accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills as outlined in the skills checklist including: measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output.
  • Performs or assists patients with the activities of daily living. Prepares patients for transportation and/or transport.
  • Demonstrates competency in skills outlined in competency modules including: measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output.
  • Performs or assists patients with activities of daily living.
  • As directed by the registered nurse, collects and documents data accurately and timely.
  • Stocks nurse servers, orders supplies, and other tasks associated with unit maintenance and day to day operation.
  • Completes all mandatory training and competency modules
